Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the status bar down on the home screen
  2. Drag the brightness slider in the notification area towards the left
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device
  4. Tap “Display” and optionally, turn “adaptive brightness” On or Off
  5. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery
  3. Tap “Menu
  4. Enable “Battery saver

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By turning the phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the status bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Launch “Settings
  4. Go to “Location” for additional GPS options, tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving
  5. For Hotspot options return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and turn the feature OFF

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  3. Tap “Mobile networks
  4. Access “Preferred network type
  5. Enable “2G

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Tap “Apps” under “Device
  3. Ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force stop” / “Disable
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ settings to reduce sync you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Tap “Accounts” under “Personal
  3. Select an account type and the desired account
  4. Change the account’s settings to reduce sync

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System updates
  4. Check if new updates are available for download
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
