Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
- Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
- Tap “Display” and enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
- Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout duration
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use, including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth to improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Location” and “Wi-Fi” quick toggles to disable the features
- Launch “Settings” and go to “Location” for more GPS options
- Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & networks”
- Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync in order to improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
- Select the desired account
- Change the desired settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
- Go to “All apps” and select the desired application
- Tap “Force stop” / “Disable” to turn the app off
- To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “About phone”
- Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available for download
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
