Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device”
- Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
- For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable your phone’s connectivity features when not in use – including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS – to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the status bar down
- Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to turn the features OFF
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- Return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Tethering & Mobile hotspot” and disable the feature
Use 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Go to “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device”
- Tap “Battery”
- Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: You can change y our accounts’ settings to reduce sync and conserve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
- Select the desired account
- Change the available settings to minimize sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the device’s battery life even when they are not actively in use. You can disable or remove unused third-party apps to improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
- Ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application and tap “Force Stop” to disable it or:
- Tap “Uninstall” to remove the app
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “About phone” > “System updates”
- Verify if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
