Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open “Settings” for more options
- Go to “Display” and optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
- Tap “Sleep” for timeout options and select a lower value such as “15 seconds”
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Device”
- Tap “Battery”
- Press “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use – including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot and GPS, you can avoid unnecessary network scans and conserve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
- Tap “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable these features
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to and access “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- Return to “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Mobile networks”
- Access “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the device’s battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Under “Device” tap “Apps”
- Ensure “All apps” is checked in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- Tap “Force Stop” / “Disable” to turn the app OFF
- To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can decrease the amount of data synced by your accounts/apps to improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Accounts”
- Select an account type
- Select the desired account and change the available sync settings as desired
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “About phone”
- Tap “System updates”
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
