Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- From the quick toggle area, drag the brightness slider towards the left
- For additional options launch “Settings”
- Go to “Display” and optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
- For timeout settings tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”
Enable Battery Saving:
- Launch “Settings”
- Go to “Device” > “Battery”
- Tap “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use in order to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
- Open “Settings” for more options
- Go to “Location” (GPS), tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- Return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks” for hotspot options
- Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can improve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Mobile networks”
- Go to “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Reduce Sync:
NOTE: You can reduce the amount of data synced by your apps/accounts to improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Personal”
- Go to “Accounts” and select an account type
- Select an account and change the available sync settings as desired
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Many third-party apps perform regular background tasks and this can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. You can disable or remove unused third-party apps to improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch “Settings”
- Go to “Apps”
- Ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app
- To disable the app, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
- To remove the app from the phone storage, tap “Uninstall”
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To verify if new updates are available:
- Launch “Settings”
- Access “About phone”
- Go to “System updates”
- Check if a new update is available
- Follow the on-screen prompts to apply available updates, if applicable (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
