Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Device”
- Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Go to “Settings”
- Access “Display” options
- Drag the slider towards the left to decrease the screen brightness
- Optionally, you can enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
- For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, such as Bluetooth, Hotspot, Wi-Fi, and GPS, in order to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” (GPS) quick toggles to disable these features
- Next open “Settings” for more options
- Access “Location” and tap “Mode” > “Battery saving”
- Go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Go to “Tethering & Portable hotspot” and disable the features
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Access “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Change Account Settings to Decrease Sync:
NOTE: You can change your accounts’ settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Accounts”
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to decrease sync as desired
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery performance even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch “Settings”
- Go to “Apps”
- Ensure you’re viewing “All apps”
- Select the desired application
- Tap “Force Stop’ / ‘Disable” to turn the app off, or
- Tap “Uninstall” to remove the app
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch “Settings”
- Access “About phone”
- Tap “System updates”
- Check if new updates are available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (NOTE: the process will require you to reboot the phone at least once)
