Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Display”
- Drag the slider towards the left side to decrease brightness
- Optionally you can turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
- For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Go to“Settings”
- Tap “Device”
- Access “Battery” and tap “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use, such as Bluetooth, Hotspot, Wi-Fi, and GPS, to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” (GPS) quick toggles to turn the features off
- Open “Settings” for more options
- Go to “Location” and tap “mode” > “Battery saving”
- Return to “Settings” and tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Access “Tethering & portable hotspot” and turn the feature Off
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Go to “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Go to “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Reduce Account Sync:
NOTE: You can change your accounts’ settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to “Settings”
- Access “Accounts”
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to decrease sync
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Apps” and ensure you’re viewing “All apps”
- Select the desired app
- Tap “Force Stop” / “Disable” to turn the app off, or:
- Tap “Uninstall” to remove the app
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Go to “Settings”
- Access “About phone” > “System updates”
- Verify if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process. Keep in mind that OS updates will require you to reboot the phone at least once
