Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left
- For additional options, open “Settings”
- Go to “Display” and turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
- For timeout options return to “Settings” and tap “Sleep”
- Select a lower timeout duration such as “15 seconds”
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Device” > “Battery”
- Tap “Menu”
- Enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can turn your phone’s connectivity features Off when not actively in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, in order to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- From the quick toggle area, tap the “Wi-Fi” “Location” (GPS) and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
- Open “Settings” for more options
- Go to “Location” then tap “mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- Return to “Settings” and tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Tethering & Portable hotspot” and disable the feature
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Mobile network” > “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By reducing the amount of data synced by your accounts and apps, you can potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and access “Accounts’
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Modify the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus you can remove or disable unused third-party apps to potentially improve battery life.
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Apps”
- If necessary, switch to “All apps”
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap “Disable” / “Force Stop”
- To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: Software updates can provide battery life improvements and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Launch “Settings”
- Access “About phone”
- Tap “System updates”
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot to complete)
