Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch “Settings”
- Access “Device”
- Tap “Battery” > “Menu’
- Enable “Battery saver”
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left
- Open “Settings” and go to “Display”
- Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
- For timeout options, go back to “Settings” and tap “Sleep’
- Select a lower timeout duration like “15 seconds”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use, including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, in order to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improver battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- From the quick toggle area, tap the “Wi-Fi” “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
- Launch “Settings” and access “Location”
- Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- Go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Tethering & Portable hotspot” and turn the feature Off
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “mobile networks”
- Access “Preferred network type”
- Enable “2G”
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect battery life, so you might improve battery life in the long run by disabling or removing unused third-party apps.
- Open “Settings”
- Access “Apps’ and switch to “All apps” if necessary
- Select the desired app
- Tap “Disable” / “Force Stop” to turn the app off
- To remove the app from the device, tap “Uninstall”
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By reducing the amount of data synced by your apps and accounts, you can potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch “Settings”
- Go to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
- Select an account type
- Tap the desired account
- Change the settings to reduce sync as desired
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “About phone” > “System updates”
- Verify if a new update is available
- If so, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (NOTE: the update process will require you to reboot the phone at least once)
