Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease brightness
- Launch “Settings” for more options and go to “Device”
- Tap “Display” and optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
- Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value like “15 seconds”
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch “Settings”
- Go to “Device”
- Tap “Battery”
- Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, including Hotspot, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the “Wi-Fi” “Location” (GPS) and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
- Open “Settings” for more options
- Go to “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
- To disable Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “Wireless & Networks” under “More”
- Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open “Settings”
- Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
- Tap “Mobile networks”
- Go to ‘Preferred network type” and enable “2G”
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By removing or disabling unused third-party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Apps” under “Device”
- Ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired app
- To disable the app, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
- To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can reduce the amount of data synced by your accounts/ apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal”
- Tap “Accounts” and select the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “About phone” > “System updates”
- Check if new updates are available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update. Note that the update process will require at least one reboot
