This is a problem I often have. I know someone's mobile number, but I can't send them a text message because I don't know their service provider.

Is there a way to easily determine someone's mobile service provider based on their phone number?

Thinking about this a little bit, I suppose I could write a script that takes a phone number and then sends a message to EVERY combination of that phone number and the list of domain names associated with text messages.

you dont have to know their service provider if your just sending a text message

...if you are trying to send it via your email account you do.... but not from your phone. You CAN also send text messages via programs like yahoo messenger knowing only their phone number , I believe that would be Mr. Williams best bet .

Thanks for the tip about Yahoo Messenger. Yes, I was trying to send from my email account. I ended up sending it to all the alternatves. One gets through, several bounce, and others go into the ether, never to return.

but im having the same problem i cant send texts to the cell i want to so ive been trying some sites on the net...but each one asks for the network provider..which i dont know...is there a way to find it out as i cant send the texts otherwise

With number portability there's no way to know anymore.

You can use a website like Local calling guide: 2007-01-06 to see who the exchange originally belonged to, but if the person ported their number from one provider to another, you will just know who originally had the number, not who does now.

Being a woman has nothing to do with it.

NPA-NXX Search: 2007-01-07 Enter the area code and prefix... and it will tell you whose exchange that is.

For example, 306-591 belongs to Rogers Wireless. 323-373 belongs to T-Mobile.

but again... (and I'm a woman too, and an admin on this site, using "woman" as an excuse screams, "Get me some professional help for my self esteem, someone has convinced me that being a woman means that I cannot do things") ....number portability you may not have a permanent solution... Download yahoo messenger, send a text through that and ask them which service provider/email addy they have... once you get that info you can go to their provider's site and use their interface for sending messages... A lot of the time messages sent through the provider's interface are free where others cost.

Everyone is responding to this thread but no one is answering your question.

There are a few ways you can do research to take a number and maybe find out who the carrier is but they are not guaranteed to be accurate.

The simplest way to do this is just to use the Teleflip service. You simply take the original number and add "teleflip.com" to the end and send your email. Teleflip will do the carrier routing.
