I recently got a Virgin mobile phone, and immediately noticed that I was among the few people I knew that used this kind of service.
Does anyone care to share stories with their use of pay as you go/Virgin Mobile services? Is the use of them are rare as I percieve or are they more popular than I think?
Thanks.

I don't know about popular, but there are a lot of people who use pre-paid services. You can't really tell who has pre-paid, and who doesn't. Verizon, Sprint, etc, all offer this service.
I put my wife on Verizon's pay as you go service a couple years ago because she was only using her phone for like 25 to 30 minutes per month. I just couldn't justify paying $34.95 a month to keep her on a regular account and so, when her contract ended, we switched her. It ended up after all the math, that we paid about $15 a month for her to have a phone. Well, then her sister switched over to a cell phone, then her parents, and it just became more cost efffective to put her back on a regular calling plan.
