OK, I've had enough of turbulent relationship with Cingular, and I will be casting her aside for a more stable partner. Now, here is my problem. Here in New Orleans cell service is spotty at best. I'm in Uptown, and many folks in my neighborhood with Cingular can't make/receive calls. So I'm considering T-Mobile and VZW.

Question: Does anyone out there know who has the best coverage in the Nola area? Anyone with good/bad experience to share?

The situation here in New Orleans is still not good, and I don't want to sign up for a cell phone service that is still (as of mid-Dec) in shambles...

I do not live in the new Orleans area, but perhaps i can share some knowledge with you. Generally speaking if you are not satisfied with the service provided from Cingular i would not recommend going with T-Mobile. They are both GSM services and T-Mobile seems to get worse coverage then Cingular. That leaves your only option CDMA technology, which is Verizon or Sprint. Sprint is widely known for their poor service coverage, so i would stay away from them. leaving your only choice verizon, however Verizon being the largest company of them all, they have horrible customer service and reaching someone for help is a pain in the ass! If you are not looking for something permanent right now i would recommend looking into prepaid. One that works on the Verizon CDMA network. look into a locus platinum reseller, they will probably offer the best deals.

hope that helps a little in your purchase decision. Also hope everything is going okay with the reconstruction down in new Orleans. They don't seem to cover it much on the news anymore, but id imagine its still in shambles. feel free to ask a follow up question if my post confused you in any way.

when i was in nawlins in july, pre-katrina, cingular worked pretty well for me. the only trouble i had was in the hotel room, but that was a pretty hefty building. worked great in the convention center and bourbon st area.

on a sidenote, for your landlines in louisiana, i know that there's tons of sbc phone guys down there from chicago land and more are on their way. and they're working 7 days a week, 12 hrs a day. some camping in tents.

    just some info.
