While on eBay looking for a deal on PagePlus pins I found and interesting offer. It was a 200 minute card for $10. It sounded too good to be true. I read further and figured it had to be a VoIP gateway.
I ordered the card and expected to receive an email with a pin number and instructions, but the email never arrived. After a few hours I sent an email asking if the required info would be sent via email and I received a prompt “Yes”. I also received a PayPal shipping notice. I was a little confused so I sent off another email and this time the seller told me it was being shipped via USPS.
I received a manila envelope a few days latter with a single sheet of paper with the pin #, VoIP gateway phone #, and instructions on one side and the PayPal packing slip printed on the other.
I checked my PagePlus minutes and then followed the clear instructions. I talked for about 15 minutes and then checked my minute balance again and NO PagePlus minutes were used!
How it works:
You call the access number provided and per the instructions you get a busy signal. Hang up and wait a few seconds for a call back. A recording prompts you to enter a 10 digit pin # and then the number you want to call. The call goes through and that’s it. The instructions say you only have to enter the pin # the first time you use the card.
Pros:
5 cents a minute on outgoing calls
Cons:
Only works for outgoing calls
Call quality isn’t as good (I just did one test call)
It’s a pain to dial the access # before every call
Expires after 30 days
The card is supposed to also work with Verizon, Cingular, Boost Mobile, Nextel, and Omni, but I only tested it with PagePlus.
