Hi guys, I need some advice on the prepaid service providers in California. Hope someone kindly enlighten me.

I will be traveling in California, mainly in SF, for 10 days from this weekend. I have an unlocked Samsung D900i from Thailand which I plan to bring along and use over there.

My question is, is it possible for me to just walk into some provider's store, says AT&T, and buy a prepaid sim and use for just the period of my travel? I have researched and as far as I have learnt, seems like they don't just sell the sim card/number alone; you actually have to buy a phone designated for prepaid service and with that comes the sim card.

Can someone help advice if that is true? Or more generally what is the easiest and cheapest way to have a cellphone to use for 10days being a foreign traveller in the US?

From the websites some phones are as cheap as $30 but I am just afraid, as I can't buy them online without US credit card or address, that those in retail store might be a lot more expensive.

Appreciate any advice very much. Thank you guys.
