Your smartphone keeps a record of everywhere you go. this is something the government can get from your cell phone carrier. basically your phones pings the closes cell tower to give up your location to your cell phone carrier and your cell carrier keeps a record of this. the govt. now wants your carrier to keep a better record of this stuff. This is in addition to the gps tracking that's built into most new smartphones. (there is a discussion about the gps stuff some where in the forums)

To make things interesting the law is not clear about how easy it should be for the government to get its hands on this location data.

I'm not a criminal, spy, terrorist, or pedophile, if the government wants to follow me or look at my useless texts... let them knock them selves out.

They have all my info, its on my tax return, my ezpass and credit cards, street and office cameras, vehicle registrations, driver licenses... hey know where to find me right now without me using my cell phone.

I don't go through life worrying about stuff i have no control over, i go through life having as much fun as possible anywhere i want without fear or being paranoid of whose listening or watching me. If the Government is tracking me... they must be BORED.

if the government needs to find me... i'll be around.

I do believe... LESS GOVERNMENT is GOOD.

This is somewhat disturbing to know but then it also has a lot of benefits especially when tracking and trying to catch a criminal.
