Hello,
I have a Samsung Droid Charge that is very slow and I am with Verizon with 8 more months of my contract left and I can upgrade in 4 months. I can't live my phone anymore because of performance issues but I am happy with Verizon network. Verizon refuses to let me upgrade to a Samsung Galazy S3 and tells me that I have to either buy a pre-certified or buy a new phone. So these are the options in front of me since I live in the Bay Area and I am mostly a data user not so much a voice user at all:
1. End my current contract with Verizon by paying a ETF of $200 and start a new contract with them with a new phone(Not sure if they will let me do this)
2. Start a new contract with ATT buying a phone from Amazon Wireless for $80. The question here is I am a data user and need good network speeds. I was wondering how good ATT 4G network is? I believe it is slower than Verizon but some people tell me that is not true.
3. Another option that sounds promising to me is to go for prepaid plan with either Straight Talk or PagePlus. This would be great for me since I usually use less than 300 minutes and 300 MB of data. But I am not sure why this option is not very popular or heard off. Is it because the network speed is slow or 4g is not supported by these cell phonecarriers?

1) Like you said, that might not be allowed. I'm not sure.

2) How much is the plan through AT&T going to cost you? You said you're a heavy data user, but AT&T doesn't have unlimited data anymore.

3) Straight Talk would be a good option, but you might not get 4G speeds, depending on the phone you choose. I think they have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (not S3) that is on AT&T's network with 4G speeds, but I'm not sure. You can bring your own phone to Straight Talk but I don't think you will get 4G speeds. Page Plus uses Verizon's network, and from what I've heard, they don't allow 4G phones to be activated. Also, data can get costly with Page Plus, so if you know an estimated amount of data you think you would use you can know if it's a cost effective option.

Instead of prepaid try Ting which charges you exactly for what you use and no more. You only talk 300 minutes, have 0 data and only so many texts? you pay x amount. If in another month you go through 2 GBs of data you pay for that but not when you don't use it. I think it's pretty handy. https:// zb7pqk11l14.ting.com/
