actually, Cellular One is still alive and well in some limited areas, but falls under AirTouch, which was bought out by Vodafone in the late 90's.

Airtouch has been sucked up by the giant vacuum known as Verizon Wireless.

i do not know if Vodafone currently has a stake in Verizon Wireless or not, tho.

Cellular One (Cell one, Cellone, whatever)

Still alive and thriving in the Northern Plains, some areas of Arizona, Utah, etc. They are owned by Western Wireless dba CellularOneWest - I live in NW MN, have my phone out of ND (live on the border) We have a fairly large Timbuktoo-land up here and CellOne gives pretty "fair" CDMA digital coverage out in the nowhere lands - sometimes. It is getting better. I have the Audiovox 8900 and subscribe to all the bells and whistles because I am a gadget freak. 3 cell phones in our family and more to come when the kids start to drive next year (10 miles just to get milk!)

Verizon (wide spread) and Cell2000 (little subsidiary of something - only far NE and Nearly International Falls - WAY pricey) are the other providers up this far north, Sprint further south. CellOne has the best continual clear coverage with all our digital goodies so far for us in the boondocks. BTW - Verizon has the UniCell service up this way.

Cell One/Dobson Communications is the premier provider in alaska, not to mention the only GSM provider, whats goin on with that? because CellOne Bought out AT&T up here, which totally screwed up our service...Cellone's customer service is iffy, sometimes great sometimes horrible... mostly it's horrible unless you want something that costs more, like signing up for web access
