Re: google vs iphone
I think that it will sooner or later a strong and serious iPhone competitor. Only time can tell what will happen. Though I personally dislike iPhone.

Re: google vs iphone
I think you have to distinguish between the Google Android phone operating system, and the first phone to use this operating system, the T-Mobile G1.
The G1 is a decent phone, but imho not as slick as the iphone and quite chunky too. But, the Google Android OS it is running looks like it has lots of great potential. So, I think we will see some great Google-powered phones coming out in the next year or so. Maybe a SonyEriccson Google-powered phone will be the iphone killer.Tara

Re: google vs iphone
I think the iphone is definitely for the hip crowd. All my coworkers have it, but the G1 is definitely more powerful simply because of its OS system. I the iphone is a great friday night/saturday night phone because its definitely smaller and what not but the G1 is a better daily phone. I personally dont like typing on the iphone but thats just me. Great phones for different purposes, that and plus if you dont plan to get down and dirty with your phone, I would just say stick with the iphone, there are a lot of tweaks for the G1 a lot of them, people dont even bother with. Different phones for different uses, I own a g1 and plan to buy the iphone sometime this year just for the different uses.

Re: google vs iphone
Android has less apps for now, but much more potential as it's straight forward from the developer to the user. Apple apps need to be validated, it's longer.
But on the contrary, iPhone apps tend to be better with that process.
Personnaly, i had both phones, and I prefer Android as it is much more customizable

Re: google vs iphone
Tech wise, Android is a bit better since it's more customizeable. However support wise and app wise, Apple can practically spank Android in that department.

Re: google vs iphone
The G1 is hooked into Google (in some big brother-ish ways) as much as iPhone and Apple but the Android OS has more potential, if only because it's more accessible for developers to throw out apps and see what happens. Personally I'd like to have more access to the base Linux OS but don't think that's happening anytime soon.

Android is definitely better, it is an open source code the opportunities of development are more.
