Until the launch of HTC's Android phone, Hero, with the new HTC Sense UI, smartphone and data users really had three choices (in my opinion)...Apple iPhones, RIM Blackberrys, & the Palm Pre. But, this new Sense UI from HTC finally makes HTC worth considering as a smartphone. Even the style and finish of this Hero device make up for lost time. Until now, HTC was known to build mostly Windows Mobile (and a few Android) clunkers for niche/business users. I think of those bulky sliders with a big keyboard and stylus, until the G1 for TMobile came out. But, this combination of Android platform with the Sense UI make the HTC Hero a candidate among the top three platforms mentioned above. Sense touchscreen interaction includes the gestures and finger movements that made the iPhones & now the Pre so intuitive and popular.

So, in my opinion, those that want to use data features & more smartphone features should definitely be buying a Pre, one of many Blackberrys, an iPhone, or this new Hero (coming soon). All the other hardware pretending to be smartphones are really only good for voice and texting, but little else.
