A couple of months ago I purchased a Motorola Moto G Play phone. At first it seemed to work pretty well without any problems. My carrier is T-Mobile and the operating system is Android 6.0.1. I do a lot of local travelling so GPS software is very important to me. I have been very happy with Google Maps until recently. About 2 weeks ago I started having major problems with this app. Every 30 to 60 seconds I get a message that is has lost the GPS signal and the tracking stops . It typically takes about 15 to 30 seconds for it to "find" the signal again after which it tries to update my location. Often the app cannot seem to place my location accurately on the map and sometimes is even shows me moving in the wrong direction. It makes it very frustrating to use and sometimes I even miss an important turn because it has lost the signal.
I have gone into 3 different T-Mobile stores and asked them to check the phone. The first two times they said the settings were wrong although the "new" settings they changed to didn't solve the problem. I have also tried using Waze but I get the similar issue of a lost GPS signal and no tracking.
I don't think it is a hardware problem because it did work well for the first month or so that I had the phone. I also don't think it is a problem with the app because I have the same problem with Waze as well. Any ideas about some obscure or exotic setting that may be the source of the problem? Is there perhaps some app running in the background that interferes with the GPS signal? Everything else with the phone seems to work fine.
