Animated wallpaper on front screen of lg pm225

Hello I am new to the forums and I am not sure this is the place to post this question or not. I have a LG pm225 phone and I would like to put an animated wallpaper on the little front screen. I have downloaded the wallpaper but it never shows up as an option for the front. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if it can be done. I have looked in this forum and in the LG forum and was not able to see anybody else asking this question. Any help would be great.

    Thanks

You're not doing anything wrong, the phone can't play animated wallpaper on the front screen. Before I posted, I wanted to be sure so I resized a cmx file (.pmd) to the resolution of the front display (96x64) and sent it to my phone. Still, the only option is to set it for the main display.

Did you buy the wallpaper from Sprint or another site, or did you make it yourself? I'm curious if you made it yourself what software you used, since Sprint phones won't display animated GIFs and the CMX authoring tool that converts animations to the right format is way too expensive.

I did not know that the phone could not do gif animations. I just got it a week ago and have just started to get into this phone customization stuff. So i need a cmx file to do animations on the phone? Did you download yours from sprint or somewhere else on the web? How do I get a picture I download to come up on the front display of the phone? I went to it in setting but it will not let me pick from my downloads folder it will just let me pick from the camera and the saved to my phone pictures.

No CDMA phones will play animated GIFs, it seems to be a limitation of the technology. So it's not just your phone, it's every phone made for Sprint, Verizon, Alltel, and other CDMA carriers. I have gotten some good wallpapers (not animated) from our forums, but I usually make my own by googling pictures, resizing them, and sending them through an uploader.

The uploader I normally use is Hidden Content but it seems to be down this weekend. Keep in mind if you enter your phone number it uses a text message and downloading the file to your phone uses the Vision service, so if they aren't included in your plan they both cost money to use.

Here are a couple of relevant posts that I think will help you figure out the rest. Hidden Content

Re: Animated wallpaper on front screen of lg pm225

I just tried to make a pmd file with one of those free cmx makers. In the program I see the file animate but when I uploaded it to my phone and set it as my screensaver it will not animate. I only see the last animation in the file and nothing else happens. Did I do something wrong and does anybody know how to make pmd files work on the pm-225.

On the last tab in the CMX Studio is "Loop" and you have to select "Infinite Loop"... I think that's all I did and mine turned out fine. Are you using a different program than the one I posted in my thread? When you say "animate" do you mean one frame per second like a slideshow, or did you figure out how to actually make it "animate" like a GIF?

Re: Animated wallpaper on front screen of lg pm225

I figured out how to get it sped up so it looks just like a gif I downloaded. I have set the loop to be infinite. If I open it up in the program it will loop. Also I looked at it on the phone in the viewer where you can set it as your background and it is looping there. After I set it as my background it will run though it once and stay at the last frame of the animation. If I switch screens and come back to the main screen it will run though again but only once. Not sure what is going on.

Edit: I was able to figure out what I was doing wrong with the animation. I had selected the wrong cmk version for my phone. I selected a different version and the animation is playing fine now as my screen saver.

I would still like to know how to set a custome pic as the front lcd screen on my phone though. I can only see the default ones that are loaded in the phone.

    Thanks

Re: Animated wallpaper on front screen of lg pm225

Please let me know what you did to speed up the cmx file, it would be a great help to myself and anyone else who is having the same problem. To get a custom pic onto your front LCD, you have to save it at a certain resolution, in other words the same size as a picture you took with your camera phone (160x120, 320x240, or 640x480), and then email it to your picture mail address. Save it in your Saved Pictures folder, and then you can set it for the front lcd. The problem is that since the camera takes larger pics than the LCD's 96x64 res, the phone will auto-crop the image when you set it for the wallpaper. This is the only way I've figured out to do it, if you save the image as 96x64 the stupid phone will only let you use it for the main lcd. So, you can use any pic you took with the camera, OR you can crop a picture to the size of a camera phone image and send it through pic mail and that'll work. Hidden Content

Thank you very much for the help with the front screen. Now all I have to do is figure out what my picture email address is and I am set Hidden Content . When I get home from work today I will try and write something up on the CMX Studio that I downloaded with screenshots and see if that helps anybody. Would you like it as a new post or just a reply under this one?

It would be really awesome if you could add your CMX tutorial to the thread I started Hidden Content . I'll give you some CPF cash for it and you can go buy something cool like a glowing username. Hidden Content

Anyway, I have a large amount of images that I've done over the past 13 years or so that I think would look great as wallpaper. Over the last few days, I have been looking about how to connect my phone to my computer, download images, etc. It seems like I would have to have one of my images in 1 billion different sizes to accomodate all the cell phone screens! I'm a photoshop pro, but that can get very tedious. I was starting to think about making wallpapers for only the newest phones out there.

So... where do I start? Can wallpapers be jpegs? gifs? pngs? Is there a way to transfer my wallpapers to customers' phones? Or do I email the images to them? Any help is greatly appreciated. Moreover, I will probably put some free ones up on this forum for you to enjoy.

    Thanks!

    Hi Sean,
You'll be looking at quite a bit of upfront money to get yourself going and if you're not dealing in a large volume of walls (ie: over 1,000) then it's likely not worth the money and effort to try and sell your walls since folks can go to any number of websites and download thousands of different walls for free.

But, if you decide to try it out, I'd suggest that you set up a vBulletin website (same format as this website) since you can set permissions for whether or not visitors can see your images depending on whether or not they have paid/subscribed.

In terms of getting the images to the visitors phones, leave that up to them since the software scripting to do that will cost you another big chunk of change. Folks usually just download the image to their hard drive and then upload to their phone using a USB cable.

Hope that helped and good luck - this thread is a bit old now so I'm not sure if you found something that'll work or not,

Re: The dimensions of my display

    Hi Indiana,

Your screen size (Samsung A920) is 176x220.

Most graphics software programs have the ability to resize walls but it has to be done properly so that you don't end up with a warped, distored looking image - my main method is the old tried and true cropping of a larger image down to the exact size that I need rather than trying to squeeze it down. But, how to do that is way beyond this thread.

    Cheers,
    Acadian
