Dropped it in the water. Took the battery out, etc and dried it with a blow dryer. Left it in a warm area for a day and when I reassembled it, it started up and hung a few times, but then seemed to be fine. I let it sit and then turned it off and then restarted it. (treating it like a computer that is acting up). Now it is stuck on the Tmobile startup screen with all the dashes, and will go dim and blank after it sits awhile, but will light up when keys are pushed. I could open it up I think by taking off the small torx screws along the edge under the back cover, but would sure like someone's take on this.

My guess is that the phone is toast. You've violated the warranty by dropping it in water. Most phones have an internal water sensor that changes color whenever water reaches the internal part of the phone thus letting the manufacturer know if a specific phone has been water damaged. Because your warranty is now already voided, there is nothing to be lost opening the phone but I'd question whether anything can be gained. If water fried the LCD or the internal circuits, there isn't going to be much you can do to resolve the problem by disassemling the thing.

My recommendation is to go pick up a new phone.

After that description, may your phone rest in peace, time for a new handset.
it's rare or actually i've never heard of a handset functioning the same after being exposed to liquid damage.
