undecided need direction.

I have finally made up my mind on getting a better phone and I have focused on the htc type of cell phones just want to be very clear on my next few steps i heard that i can take a better phone from the sprint/nextel line since i already have boost service and use it in a sprint/nextel phone of my choice as long as i upgrade from my iden service to a cdma service and then contact the sprint/boost rep and give them the necessary info from the phone of my choice and upgrade from that point forward is this true? desperate for the right info so i can make my move and feel confident can someone lend some quality info please thanks. And also what's the deal with the GSM phones are they also an option that can be used?

You used to be able to use nextel phones with boost service but as far as I know you can't anymore. This is what people have told me anyway.
