When you set up your smartphone for the first time, you will be asked to sign in with your Microsoft account. If you didn’t sign in an account at that point or you have more than just one Microsoft account, follow the next settings to set up a primary Microsoft account.

1. While on the Start screen, swipe left.
2. Scroll down to Settings.
3. Tap email + accounts.
4. Tap add an account and select Microsoft account.
5. In the Email address field, enter your email address.
6. In the Password field, enter your password.
7. Tap Sign in.
The contacts, photos, calendar and feeds from your Microsoft account will be synchronized to your HTC 8X.

Add a POP3/IMAP email account


1. From the Start screen, swipe left.
2. Scroll down to Settings.
3. Select Email + accounts.
4. Tap Add an account.
5. Select the desired email account from the list. In case you don’t see the desired email account type, tap other account.
6. In the Email address field, enter your email address.
7. In the Password field, enter your password.
8. The handset will now look for the account settings, completes the setup and synchronizes the information from your account.

If you added your Google Account, your smartphone will synchronize and download your Gmail and Google contacts and calendar from the account. In case you’ve added other POP3 or IMAP accounts, the handset will sync the emails from those accounts as well.

Add a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Account


1. From the Start screen, swipe left.
2. Scroll to, and tap Settings.
3. Tap email + accounts.
4. Select add an account.
5. Choose Outlook.
6. In the appropriate fields, enter the email address and password.
7. Tap Sign in when finished.
8. Now if you’re requested, enter the domain. In case you have a blank domain, leave the field empty and tap Sign in.
9. In case you see a notification screen displayed, tap Advanced so you can enter additional account information or tap try again to go to the previous screen and edit it.
10. Enter the remaining account information and tap Sign in when you’re done.
11. Your corporate email server may require a device security password to be created. If that’s the case, tap Set.
12. Enter the password that you want to use -> then re-enter the password and tap Done.
13. If you’re a first time user, you will be taken to the inbox. Your new emails will be downloaded and displayed here.
14. If you’ve previously configured an email account on the smartphone , you will see the “Email + accounts” on screen.

However if you were not able to reach this point and the account settings were not found, you should follow the onscreen instructions to enter the Exchange ActiveSync settings manually. If necessary, ask your Exchange server administrator for the settings.

Deleting an Email Account

1. From the Start screen, slide to Apps.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Email + accounts.
4. Select the account that you want to delete.
5. Tap Delete.
6. You will be asked to confirm you want to delete the account.
7. Tap Delete again.
