If you go all the way back to 2007, Motorola ruled the cell phone market and HTC was still thinking about entering the cell phone market. Just 6 years later, HTC already has a top end smart phone to its name, the HTC One. And finally Motorola has come out with a smart phone of its own, the Motorola Moto X. The only question left to answer now is, which is the better smart phone manufacturers? And what better way of finding out than comparing both their flagship smart phones? Let’s get straight into it then...
Size and weight
Both these smart phones are quite similar and very different at the same time when it comes to size and weight. The HTC One measures 137.4 x 68.2 x 9.30 mm and weighs 143 g while the Moto X measures 129.3 x 65.3 x 10.40 mm and weighs 130 g. While the HTC One is longer and wider it is thinner than the Moto X which makes it a little easier to hold. On the other hand, the Moto X is 13 g lighter than the HTC One which makes it easier to hold as well.
Like I said, both smart phones are quite similar and very different at the same time. This one’s a draw.

Display
Both of these smart phones are exactly the same when it comes to their display sizes. Both of them have a 4.7” touch screen. But while the Moto X display uses AMOLED technology and has a pixel density of 316 ppi the HTC One used S-LCD3 technology and has a pixel density of 468 ppi. That is a huge difference isn’t it? But considering the fact that HTC has been doing this for a while and Motorola are just getting started with their return to the top end of the cell phone industry, I think we can look forward to a lot more from Motorola in the future.
But for now, the HTC One picks up this point.

Memory & Storage
In terms of memory, both smart phones are the same again with 2 GB of RAM each. But, neither of these smart phones offers too much in terms of storage. The HTC One offers 32 GB of user memory while the Moto X comes in two versions, one with 16 GB and the other with 32 GB. Neither offers expandable memory though. While 32 GB is quite a lot in terms of storage, the lack of expandable storage isn’t something to be proud of.
This one will have to be a draw as well.

Camera
HTC has been making smart phones for quite a while now and one thing that most smart phone users look at is the camera. But the camera on the HTC One isn’t something to boast about at 4 MP. HTC should feel embarrassed that Motorola were able to easily incorporate a 10 MP camera in their smart phone. Personally, I think HTC have gotten enough flak about the poor camera on its flagship smart phone and have got the hint. I’m sure their next smart phone will more than make up for the poor camera though.
But for now, the Moto X takes this point with a much larger camera.

OS & Performance
Both these smart phones run on the latest Android operating system 4.2.2 JellyBean. But in terms of performance, there is around a year’s difference between both smart phones. The HTC One comes with a Quad Core, 1700 MHz, Krait 300 processor and Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T chip while the Moto X comes with a Dual Core, 1700 MHz, Krait processor and Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro MSM8960 (Motorola X8). Even though Motorola have added their own unique touch to the Moto X’s system chip, the technology still is quite old and can’t stand up to the newer technology on the HTC One. Hopefully, Motorola will catch up soon though.
The HTC One picks up this point for its superior performance.

Battery
You may be a little shocked with the figures here. Both these smart phones have quite normal sized batteries at 2,300 mAh and 2,200 mAh for the HTC One and Moto X respectively. But in terms of standby time, the HTC One offers 20 days while the Moto X claims to have a standby time of an amazing 24 days. If this figure is true, it will change the way smart phone users look at their phones. Then again, I remember my Moto Razr V3i used to last for days on end without any trouble.
Even though HTC has the bigger battery, this point will go to the Moto X for its 24 day standby time.

Price
The Moto X is rumored to be priced at around $ 700 which is a lot for a smart phone with as little to offer and which is running on technology from 2012. The HTC One is priced at a much more competitive $ 640. In terms of value for money, I will have to say that the HTC One is better although the Moto X does have a much better camera on the back.
This point will have to go to the HTC One as $ 700 is too much for the Moto X.

Conclusion
The HTC One just about manages to scrape through and pick up the win with 3 points to 2. This clearly shows that Motorola have managed to get a few things right with their smart phone even though they haven’t yet managed to put together the complete package. I’m sure Motorola is going to impress us very soon with another smart phone that makes the Motorola Moto X look like the Samsung Galaxy S3 (no offence). But the Samsung Galaxy S4 is a huge improvement over the Galaxy S3 isn’t it?
