VPN Connectivity

NOTE: Before you can connect to an organization's local network you could be required to:

  • Download and install a necessary VPN application
  • Install security certificates
  • Provide your login credentials

Adding a New VPN Network:

  1. From the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the "Settings" button located in the upper-right corner
  3. Tap "More" under "Wireless & networks"
  4. Tap "VPN" and press the "Menu" icon
  5. Select "Add VPN profile"
  6. Enter the necessary VPN settings and tap "Save"

Connecting to a VPN:

  1. Swipe the "Status" bar down with two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "More" under "Wireless & networks"
  4. Tap "VPN" and select the desired VPN
  5. Provide the log in credentials and tap "Connect"

Disconnecting from a VPN:

  1. Swipe down the "notification" bar
  2. From the notification area, tap the "VPN" notification
  3. Tap "Disconnect"

Using the HTC Desire 816 as a Wireless Router:

NOTE: In order to be able and share your data connection with other devices via Wi-Fi Hotspot, you may need to have an approved data plan

WARNING: using your smartphone as a wireless router can result in extra costs on your bill, depending on your carrier agreement.

  1. Swipe the "Status" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "Wireless & networks" tap "More"
  4. Tap "Mobile network sharing" > "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings"
  5. Enter a name for the router if you desire
  6. Choose the security type and enter a password for Wi-Fi hotspot. NOTE: while you can select "None" in the type of security, it's recommended that you use a security type
  7. Select the "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" option to enable the feature

Using USB Tethering to Share Your Phone's Data Connection:

NOTE: You can share your phone's data connection with your computer via USB tethering. Keep in mind that you may need a USB Tethering plan in order to use this feature.

WARNING: using USB tethering may result in extra costs on your monthly bill, depending on what type of agreement you have with the mobile operator.

  1. From the home screen, drag the "Status" bar down using two fingers
  2. Enable "Mobile data" if necessary
  3. Tap "Settings"
  4. Tap "More" under "Wireless & networks"
  5. Tap "Mobile network sharing" > "USB network settings" > "USB tethering"
  6. Establish a connection between your smartphone and computer using the USB cable

NOTE: make sure you have downloaded the latest USB drivers in order for tethering to work properly
