WARNING! When you master reset your phone all of the personal data stored on the internal memory will be lost, including downloaded content, contacts, media files, ringtones etc. Your phones settings will also be restored to factory values.
NOTE: To learn how you can back up and restore data on the HTC Desire 626s before resetting it, visit this thread. You can also learn how to sync / transfer data via HTC Sync Manager in this thread.
Master Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Under Personal, tap Backup & reset
- Enable or disable Automatic restore and Backup my data
- Tap Reset phone and in case your phone is password protected, enter the necessary security credentials to proceed
- Optionally you can Erase SD Card. WARNING! This will remove all content stored on the SD
- At the Warning pop-up, tap OK and wait for the phone to reset
Master Reset via Recovery (Hardware Keys):
NOTE: If your phone prevents you from resetting it via Settings (method above), you can try resetting it via Recovery instead. To access Recover you need to perform a sequence of button presses:
- Turn off the phone
- Press and hold Volume Down
- Press and release Power (ensure the volume key is pressed)
- When the phone shows a black screen with blue and red lines of text, release all hardware buttons
- From the menu, press Volume Down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Navigate the bootloader menu using Volume down and highlight Boot to Recovery Mode
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- When you see a red triangle with an exclamation mark, hold Power and press & release Volume Up
- In the Recovery menu, press Volume Down to highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power and highlight yes delete all user data
- Press Power again and the phone will start resetting
- When the process is done, press Power with Reboot system now highlighted
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: Once you factory reset your phone you should check for new software updates:
- Tap Apps and go to Settings
- Under Phone, tap About
- Tap Software information
- Press Check now. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it
