Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or simply doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache and / or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal information stored within the app will be deleted, including high scores, login and credit card information, profiles, settings etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear only the application’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Storage
  6. Tap “Clear cache” > “Clear data” > “OK” (read the WARNING if necessary)

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably etc. and you’re considering fixing these issues by resetting the phone, you can instead try to clear the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data.

  1. Make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold “Volume Down” and then “Power
  3. When the phone vibrates, release “Power
  4. At the “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down” too
  5. Navigate the menu using “Volume down” and highlight “reboot to bootloader
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. After the HTC logo appears and disappears, a large exclamation mark should be displayed. At this screen, press and hold “Power” and then tap (and release) “Volume Up
  8. Release “Power” as soon as you gain access “Android Recovery
  9. Once in Recovery mode, press “Volume down” to highlight “Wipe cache partition
  10. Press “Power” to confirm
  11. Once the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and confirm

Reboot in Safe Mode to Remove an Application:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. While viewing the home screen, press and hold “Power
  2. From the “Phone Options” pop-up, tap and hold “Power Off
  3. Tap “Restart” when prompted to “Reboot to Safe Mode
  4. After the phone reboots, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first go to “Settings” and then scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps
  6. Swipe to “Downloaded” and select the desired app
  7. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK
