WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, your personal data on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files and ringtones, apps, contacts, downloaded content etc. Data located on the SD and SIM cards won’t be affected but settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before factory resetting the phone, you can check this thread for a guide on backing up data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Go to “Personal
  3. Tap “Backup & Reset” and optionally, enable or disable “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore
  4. Tap “Reset phone
  5. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password/PIN to proceed
  6. Optionally, select whether or not to “Erase SD card
  7. When ready tap “OK

Factory Reset via Android Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it using the method above, alternatively you can try resetting the device from Android Recovery.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume Down” simultaneously
  3. Release “Power” when the phone vibrates
  4. In the “HTC Download” screen, release “volume down” too
  5. Then press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Reboot to bootloader
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Then highlight “Boot to recovery mode” and press “Power
  8. At the “No command” screen, press and hold “Power” and “Volume Up” simultaneously
  9. Release the keys once in Android Recovery
  10. Next, navigate the recovery menu using the volume keys and highlight “Wipe data/factory data reset
  11. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  12. Then select “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power
  13. Lastly, once the reset is complete, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” one last time
