    WebViewer <http://www.reqwireless.com/webviewer.html> is a Mobile Java (J2ME)
application that allows many Java-enabled cell phones to access full Internet
Web (not WAP) pages by doing a remarkably good job of scaling them down to the
small screen. (It doesn't support all Web features and the phone memory does
    impose a page size limit.)

For example, WebViewer can access full NOAA weather pages; e.g., start at
<http://weather.gov>, enter your location in "Local forecast by 'City, St'",
and click Go to access the complete NOAA local forecast page, including radar
and satellite images. A Bookmark can be set for fast repeat access.

WebViewer can be seen most easily in the Online Demo at
    <http://www.reqwireless.com/demo-webviewer.html>.

There's a downloadable free 10-day demo. I was able to download it directly
to a Cingular-branded Motorola V551 (using the built-in WAP browser) from the
URL <http://reqwireless.com/wap>. WebViewer got installed as a game, and
    worked quite well.

This does look pretty cool, but as I was trying to get it working, I
stumbled on something else which has me totally confused.

I was stumbling around in the Web Sessions portion of the v551 menus.
Actually this was confusing too. From the main menu on the v551...

Settings/Web Sessions/Web Sessions (yes twice), I have the following

    Cingular
    Java Session
    MMS
    [New Entry]

.... with the Cingular one checked. At the bottom are Exit and Launch on
    the soft keys.

If I say Launch on the Cingular one, I get the normal WAP "MEdia Net"
    browser.

If I do it on the MMS entry, I get similar results.

If I launch the "Java Session" one, I get a Google screen. Why goodle?
Because in that web session, I made google the home page. I thought
this was the webviewer browser, but I don't think it is, because once I
got that working, the images are all covered with "TRIAL".

If I try doing anything from this page, I get "413: Page Cannot Be
Displayed". (hmm, just got the Google Image link to work, but then
    error 413s).

If I hit the onhook button to get out, I get the normal "Exit Browser?"
    prompt.

Once out, if I go to the Games menu and select Webviewer, I get the Java
cup of coffee and a Webviewer "splash screen". This looks like the
webviwer demo with Exit and URL on the soft buttons.

Entering URLs here seems to work fine.

So, what is that other thing? Is there a web browser built into these
phones? Is that a xHTML browser and the main google site is xHTML
    compliant?

The phonescoop description of the v551 describes:

    Browser Software: Motorola Information Browser
supports WAP 2.0 (xHTML over TCP/IP), WTLS security
