My phone above does fine in Cingular GSM until I go to work inside a
factory all day and come out afterwords.

It takes a long time to find a network. Even after initiating a call.
Previous phones had this problem but would immediately connect after
    pushing send on a call.

In most cases I have to power down and back up to get a signal.

Any easier ways to address this issue?

    Thanks!

Sound like you need to turn your phone off while you are in the factory.
I noticed that my 5600 eat through the battery if it is left in
searching mode all day long. Perhaps try setting your phone to "Flight
Mode" which will disable the radio. You can change the mode by pressing
the power button for one short moment and select the mode from the list.
