This will never happen. MSD Pro are supported starting from P910

do you definitely know that the hardware does not support
the PRO version or is this a soft(firm-)ware issue? I mean,
both versions are of equal size and number of connectors.

Absolutely hardware limitation. Compare the Memory Card Readers: None of thems
supporting MSD can use MSD Pro :-(

You say that with a lot of certainty. Is it a hardware reason, or do
you think SE just too lazy and interested in people buying the P910 as
an upgrade to do that? I wouldn't hold my breath, but MSD Pro isn't
going to make people buy new phones so it's not like it would hurt
them to add it.

That'll help him upgrade to maybe slightly less crappy branded
firmware, but SE still won't let you upgrade to non-branded firmware.
You'll only be able to upgrade to officially approved/fully branded
firmware your carrier has approved.

Wrong. Mine does. It even uses the same slot for both types.
But of course, you might be correct that in the P900 it is a hardware
limitation.

I have been misunderstood. I *know* there are reader for both types, but
please tell me if You know a reader that were solded as MSD "normal" and now
it can use "MSD Pro". It simply doesn't exist.

Yes, the hardware is the first limitation, as *all* memory card reader built
when MSD Pro it wasn't a standard!

MSD Pro is *not* retrocompatible with MSD!!!!!!!!

That is the real problem, in Italy no operator sold it branded :-)

There you go. I have a strong dislike for this branding anyway, and even
if they just print their logos on the phone. If I buy a fashion phone
as eg the Moto V600 (or now V3) I just have no need for a big ugly voda
blob on it. I pay them for their service, I do not want to be running
around advertising them. If I buy a feature phone such as the P9X0 I
have no need for operators to impose their software and interface on me.
What are they thinking?!

My Sony memory stick reader was upgraded via a firmware update to handle
the pro media.
Honestly in my opinion what is occurring is that Sony Ericsson is not
providing an upgrade for the Pro media based upon a marketing decision,
not an engineering limitation.

Sounds cool! What is your MSD reader model? This is the first time I heard
something like this ;-)

Of course this *could* be a reason, but I don't think it is.

Re: P900 Memory Stick Duo Pro and removing branding?
Basically the memory stick reader built into my Vaio PC. Sony sells a
line of memory stick readers that include external USB based units, as
well as a mouse with a reader built into it.
Every one of these units are upgradable, as well as most Vaio PCs, to
the Pro media. It is notable that this includes equipment that is years
old.
Basically Sony Ericsson want you to throw away your P900 and purchase a
P910 to get the Pro feature. This is an identical tactic employed by
Sony for the Clie line. If the software is defective, throw the unit
away and purchase a newer model.
The consumer has to speak with their money. If you don't like this then
don't purchase Sony equipment.
On the other hand it appears that the Vaio division has a deal going
with the memory stick group as everything in their power is done to
enable you to purchase and use the Pro media.
