Hi
Anyone got any suggestions as to why my new P910i is losing battery
charge incredibly quickly (it seems to last less than 24 hours!)
I remember seeing some setting that warned me that it might drain the
battery quite quickly - but I cant remember what it was!
- Any suggestions?
I think it may have been something to do with the new bluetooth headset
that I have also bought, but even when bluetooth is turned completely
off (i.e. no icon in task bar) the damned thing drains very fast.
Either way I cant find the setting to re-set!
with thanks

Is the screen turning off? That will drain the battery quicker than B/T. I
leave B/T on and it doesn't drain the battery that much. IR can also drain
the battery if left on. Have you installed any software that is wanting to
connect to the internet for updates or anything like that?
The battery can also take a few charges to settle down. How long did you
give it for the initial charge. If I were you I'd give it a good
overnighter.

Try to install task manager on your P910 to see if you have many
applications active
in the same time
Also after you charge your phone disconnect battery from the phone and
connect it again
to see if it is completely full

Re: Brand new P910i has battery draining problem - any suggestions?
First, make sure you charge the battery completely - for a new battery,
it takes a few extra hours after the indicator shows battery as full.
Major battery drains are:
1. Screen backlight. To conserve battery, reduce brightness via control
panel.
2. GPRS. If you use the built-in e-mail client, switch off automatic
e-mail download or limit it to mesage headers. Also, check if any of
the installed applications (e.g. WorldMate) connect for autoupdate.
3. Bluetooth. Switch off "discoverable" more - this will improve
security and conserve energy.
4. Infrared. Don't keep it on unless you're using it. (It's switched
off by default).
5. Software bugs. If you notice extreme battery drain, try rebooting
the phone. (By the way, I do not observe any link between battery drain
and the number of running apps).
Hope this is helpful.

Disable Bluetooth is you aren't using.

You need to check the settings in the control panel for Display and power.
The phone screen should be able to stay lit if plugged into a power supply.
Does it not stay lit when you plug it into the cradle for syncing?
Check you don't have the screen blank and ensure that the handheld is set to
(light) on. Thise settings are set in control panel as mentioned above.

Re: Brand new P910i has..Martin
Hi,
If you open an application, make sure you shut it down correctly
otherwise it still runs in the background. If I leave Tomtom on, it
will kill the battery within 4 hours unless I close it corrrectly.
I get about 7 days use out of mine no problems at all with battery
Best regards

Re: Brand new P910i has battery draining problem - any suggestions?
Hi Ship
Do you perhaps have a program like "SMan" installed or something
similar? if so check to see if you have not left one of the modules set
to "run" I have "Network Info" on constantly and bluetooth almost
always - so my battery life is not hot - but worth it.

Re: Brand new P910i has battery draining problem - any suggestions?
I havent installed any extra software.
I gave it a full over-night charge initially.
But I havent let it drain very much since - I keep
topping it up - which may prove to be a mistake...
The battery is a "Lithium Polymer" and I dont know if it's important
to start with cycles of fully charging and fully DIS-charging (and then
fullly recharging it etc) when it's new.
Maybe another full overnight charge now would help?
Another question is what happens if I leave it in it's cradle during
the day (which I currently do) - could this OVER charge it?
Could this cause trouble by continually topping up the charge etc...

Re: Brand new P910i has battery draining problem - any suggestions?
P.S. Yes the screen *is* turning off... rather too fast if you ask me
(about 12 seconds) after you flip the lid.
Ah-ha! One problem is that if you press ANY key (or turn the wheel)
even with the keyboard locked the damned screen lights up! Is there
anyway to stop that from happening?!

Re: Brand new P910i has battery draining problem - any suggestions?
What's this "task manager thing?
Where do I get it - what does it do - is it worth having?

Ah-ha - yes this could be it!
I cant seem to get rid of the bluetooth icon (albeit with a red
diagonal line
through it...)
But How the heck *do* I do that?!
If I go Control Panel => Connections => Bluetooth
==> Settings tab
then the only options I have are:
- Bluetooth on/off
- Visible to Other devices (only tickable if Bluetooth is *on*)
And if I click on the Devices tab there's nothing there...
Any thoughts?
