    SE K750i on O2

Signal strength is poor at my home address, fluctuating minute by minute
between zero "bars", through one bar (most commonly), through four bars
(rarely). With my contract O2 SIM in the K750i I get the "emergency calls
only" message on screen which I assume means the phone is out of contact
with the O2 network. Calls and texts almost always fail. Elsewhere the
handset works OK though from time to time I get the emergency etc message in
    low signal areas.

If I put the same SIM in my older Moto V500 I can make calls and send texts
no problem from home, though call quality is usually a bit dodgy as you
    might expect at zero/one bar.

If I put a PAYG O2 SIM into the K750i I also can't make calls or send texts
    from home.

I can't find much about K750i performance being poor on the web or in Google
    groups.

Do you think the handset is faulty? Is it worth returning the handset to the
retailer or are they likely to bounce it straight back?

    Opinions welcome...

Same problem here (Walton-on-Thames, Surrey) however 2 750i,s usually
    outperform a 6310i on voice/text. No experience with WAP/Internet with K750i

Both K750s I've owned had equally poor RF performance on Voda in my case &
consequently with the earliest & current firmware. Unfortunately, discussing
RF performance is deeply unfashionable these days. When the K750 1st came
out, I mentioned it on this very forum but it wasn't what many here wanted
to hear was the impression I got.

To me, it doesn't matter how good the camera or other secondary features are
on a phone if it can't make or receive calls outside of urban areas well. SE
have taken the eye off the ball when it comes to core functionality. SE's
K700 has far better RF as does Mot's V3 which proves its not to do with
internal antennas not being up to the job but lack of sound design. Even
magazines these days don't bother measuring performance but talk up features
instead. My brother lives in a very rural part of the UK & uses a recently
acquired but ancient Alcatel model so he can get a signal. Your K750 is
probably NOT faulty but just fairly average for a modern bells & whistles
    phone.

No. I'm terrified of firmware updates since, while following supplied
instructions to the letter, I screwed a motherboard while updating the
    BIOS.

the SE software to do it is a doddle.........just download from SE site and
    follow the instructions.

I would go to sonyericsson.com and give it a whirl. It's a shockingly
    easy process!

I agree, however on o2 for me it's usually fine. A firmware update would be
a good idea, but of course that may not solve it.
