How easy is it to change the keypad on the k800i (and how do you do it)?
The keypad on mine has become battered and scratched.
I've seen that they're available
(http://www.datakits.co.uk/store/genu...ad-p-3570.html,
for example),
but do they come with fitting instructions? Does the front fascia of the
phone unclip, or something?
TIA

Re: k800i - changing keypad
Hi, I own a W810i and also replaced my keypad. The K800i might be a similar
layaut. It's actually very easy, if you know how.
a.) pull off the battery cover
b.) remove the battery
c.) You will see on the very bottom two Torx #6 screws, if you do, don't try
to loosen them with an ordinary very small screwdriver, you'll mess them up.
The two very small Phillips screws you don't have to remove. Buy or
borrow from someone a Torx #6 screwdriver.
d.) After you have removed those 2 Torx screws, use your fingernail or thumb
nail and start b prying the casing on the bottom near the sd-card slot,
work your way slowly around
towards the top. On the very top it's a bit tricky, go slowlythere,
is a plastic square catch. Do NOT use any metal tools to pry the casing
open, you'll mess it up and make it
look ugly. If you have weak fingernails, you can use an old SIM-card
or a credit card. Just be patient, it will open.
Good luck!

Re: k800i - changing keypad
Thanks, Pete. I shall have a look to see if the k800i's similar.

Re: k800i - changing keypad
Hi Pete
Nothing, yet. I haven't received the keypad yet. But I have had a look
"under the bonnet", and it's as you described - two Torx screws that I shall
remove, and two Phillips screws, which I shan't! I shall obtain a Torx
screwdriver today and hopefully receive the keypad soon. I've also ordered a
complete new casing. Luckily I have long, very strong fingernails, so it
shouldn't present too much of a problem!

Re: k800i - changing keypad
Hi Ian,
I found instructions for taking a K800i apart, step by step, with pictures,
but..... it's in German, nevertheless the photos alone would help you in
dismanteling your cell-phone.
Click on this:

I do speak some German, so if you get stuck anywhere, let me know, I'll do
my best!

Just a comment: An old SIM or a credit card is too thick imho. A plectrum or
any plastic knife-like tool that you can find in your kitchen drawer is more
suitable. It needs to be fairly thin, sharp, somewhat hard, and still not
too hard to scratch or damage the phone.
