On my T610, turning the increaing ring volume ON or OFF makes no difference,
it always starts quiet and gets louder.
I also notice that sometimes, the phone will not easily turn on.
    Are these a bugs?
How does one download new operating software?

That is a delibrate "feature" of the handset. Designed so you don't
    accidently deafen yourself.

    HTH,

    Deafen Yourself !!!!
Sometimes you have to put the phone next to your ear to hear the ringtone!!
Some of them are very quiet.

Maybe, but on full volume some of them are very loud.

Judging by the way the world is heading these days, you could find the
loudest ringtone available, set it to max volume, press it against your ear
then sue the manufacturer due to loss of hearing, hence the "ass-covering"
measures here - I am guessing. (See also the warning that comes up when
setting max volume, polyphonic ringtones etc)

Yeah, digirain is loud, but if you download a midi file to the phone, the
    volume is lousy.

Before sending the MIDI to the phone, use a program like Anvil Studio to
change the volume level (anvil studio makes you change each track in the
song individually, so make sure it sounds right). After messing with
several ringers, it appears that most are created with 50% volume set.

I've loaded my T610 up with cheesy TV show themes from the 1970s (SWAT,
Charlie's Angels, I Dream of Jeannie, Hawaii 5-0), and I would hate to
have the phone to my ear when one of them went off.

Maybe it juut depends on the volume of the MIDI file in the first place.
