Re: Ericsson R520
The best phone for the $ these days...
Reliable and feature rich.
No camera or kiddie games, monochrome screen, and somewhat large phone. If
you don't mind these, then go for it.

It works well, it is triband, has blue tooth. It isn't especially
small, but it is pretty tough, and the price is right....

You can get this phone for just UK$75 on expansys.com
Considering it has a 4-step grey scale screen, EL backlight,
bluetooth, infra-red, gprs, it's unbeatable for its price.
I am absolutely happy about this phone, only improvement is that the
ringtone could be louder. Also, I suggest you check that the software
version is R4, if not, update it.

Re: Ericsson R520
The R520 and the T39 are virtually equivalent in function, the T39 is
physically
smaller with a flip microphone and about 2/3 screen size of the R520.
I have both ;-) and both work most places on the planet, I use the T39 when
I go out 'cos it
fits in my pocket, the 520 is a bit bulky for that.
I would say that I find GPRS on the 520 a tad more reliable than on the T39
but
GPRS IP access and GSM data access ( & fax) work well on either.
Make sure the software is up to date, the old ones had a few bugs - no
network, self power off etc.

Tom.

Look great and have loads of features.
However - the signal strength was poor (even with the booster aerial) and I
personally hate the Ericsson user interface.
I loved the styling of the phone and all the accessories but just couldn't
live with using it day-to-day.

I have one and think it a great cheap phone. I keep it as a back up for
my P800

Not in my experience.
It may be good amongst Ericsson's but it cannot compare to Nokia's.
