I just bought a new unlocked Sony Ericsson originally made to use with
Fido but I am using it with Rogers AT&T .

I noticed immediately after making a few test calls and leaving
messages on my voice mail using a friends Fido Sim Card and my Rogers
that my phone left really poor sounding messages. They generally
sound staticy, unclear, and distant. In some cases, it sounded like I
was in a tunnel. I tested in various areas including those with
    excellent coverage (maximum signal strength.

Is the T200 naturally poor in transmission or is the phone defective?

    Assistance/advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

The T200 isn't the best sounding phone, but it shouldn't be that bad. I
mean, it's good enough for me to have used it daily for nearly 1 year now.

So I'd say it's probably defective.

I dont know if this is true or not, but someone said that because the
    phone
wasn't made for or tweaked for Rogers, but for Fido and is is unlocked
    then this
may be a contributing factor to the poor TX but the RX is fine. This
makes no sense to me since thephones available in Europe or Asia come
    unlocked anyways?

As you suspect, it's complete bunk.

Thanks to the [few] who replied to my post. I'm not sure if the rest
don't know much about the T200 or cellphones in general, or don't
wish to reply. But, just in case there are others in the same "boat"
    as I am in:

I called Fido today and they told me that the T200 as of late has had
ALL the problems and more, such us dropping calls and poor reception
(this started happening today). Apparently, the Fido CSR said that
Sony Ericsson has made some bad batches and I should go to my Fido
flagship and get it replaced asap. For reference, my Fido was made in
    3/15 (15th week of 2003).

I just hope the phone they give me is also unlocked and it is more
    reliable.

I am afraid you are going to be out of luck.

The "bad batch" the CSR referred to was all manufactured BEFORE week
    44 of 2002.

AFIAK Fido will not replace a FIDO phone that was unlocked with an
unlocked phone. A) Because all FIDO phones are locked, and B) unless
you can prove to them you unlocked it with the code they provided,
unlocking it by a third party technically voids the warranty.

Now, if it was unlocked by FIDO, meaning you, or your friend payed the
$250.00 unlocking fee FIDO charges, then I am sure if thy have to
replace it they will make sure the replacement is unlocked, but be
    prepared to prove it!

Good Luck, but IMO you are screwed on that one.

    $%#!@.
Any idea on why or what is causing the problem of poor TX, dropped calls,
    and weak/unstable signal?

I believe it's a problem with the antenna contacting it's pad, but I've
    never had it confirmed. TTYL
