I was wondering if it was at all possible to be alerted to the fact you have
just received mail on a t610?

I know with my '3' phone, if you send it urgent email, it will send an sms
to let you know that you have mail. Just wondering if something similar was
    possible on GSM 2G networks.

Of course it is, it depends on your email provider.

O2 (previously known as Cellnet and Genie) do this - www.o2.co.uk.

The pop3 mail and alerts work for my T39 (though I don't normally use
the T39 for pop3 because of the T39 limitations on message size). The
O2 web site suffers from too many features and too little testing,
    unfortunately.
