    A was messing around, not getting anywhere and suddenly it worked! My
    phone was recognized and I could sync. The trick? -> To swich off my
    personal firewall (ZoneAlarm).

    I not completely sure that this is in fact the solution, or I was just
    plain lucky that it worked - but It's sure worth a try..

    Couldn't get on with ZA when I 1st started using XP - worked fine with
    W98. I use the free Kerio PFW, smaller footprint & just prompted me for
    a while when I 1st installed BT. I'm surprised ZA hasn't been sorted by
    now if indeed it was the cause of your grief. All the SE s/w now works
    perfectly every time as does PhoneBackup, though it says it's not tested
    with my phone - it still works - not that I've tried to do a full
    restore of my settings with it.

    Peter G mentions in another thread that running SendFile in the
    background solved his problems with XTNDC.
