    Hi..

Just wondering..will a PAYG Orange SIM work in an Orange contract T610
    (HSD tariff)...?

I'm asking this because I *believe* that SIM-locked phones from other
networks will not let you put other SIMs in from the same network (i.e.
PAYG to contract or vice versa - even from the same provider...

    Thanks.

I've not seen a phone locked to a specific SIM for some time, but they
    certainly used to exist.

it's a tactic usually employed by the Nazis at Orange (a joke before I get
flamed, arrested or abducted by a load of men in corporate reddish/yellow
T-shirts and locked up in a small room with no charge!).
They also muck about with the software.
Won't touch 'em myself - but I'm sure they have a very valid reason to do
this, in fact I can feel someone following this up and giving us one very
    soon..................

Subsitute the word "Vodafone" for "Orange" and the above statment is
correct. Orange have never GID1 locked their handsets, Vodafone do on PAYG
and have you seen a Vodafone T610?

Never had a Pay as You go phone, but always had Voda contract. Didn't
realise Voda locked their PAYG handsets.
But know that Orange lock their Contract handsets.
    Guess we're both right.....
Why do they do it, other than to lock to one supplier - is there any
technical or Unique Selling Point reason?

BTW, you seem to be able to buy Contract T610s on Voda from
Carphonewarehouse - I assume you're referring to PAYG

Nope, the Vodafone Live! handsets are locked and branded to hell and back
    whether on contract or PAYG.

As I can testify I'll not be such a cheapskate next time. However, my
PAYG SIM works fine in it - I'm sure someone reported it wouldn't in
this NG - just needed to change the WAP gateway. Whatever, I'll get
round to sending it to you for unlocking/branding but might as well get
    a free f/w upgrade 1st.
