V620 battery problems

Good morning/afternoon/evening....

Bought a V620 two weeks ago today, recharged the battery upon purchase,
recharged it again when battery died etc - all in all, I've recharged
the battery about four times.

However, the most recent charge took over twelve hours (I don't know
the precise time - I had to go to bed the recharge was taking so long)
and just after four hours of use, I lost a bar in my battery power
indicator.

I rarely use bluetooth and had it switched off for the last few days.

Upon purchase, I was advised to recharge the battery for about sixteen
hours but the manual said that once the phone indicates the battery is
fully charged, it is fully charged therefore I switched the recharger
off when the phone said that the battery was fully recharged.

This is the sort of behaviour I expect from an elderly battery.
Has anyone else had similar problems with the V600/V620?

Normally takes 3 hours to fully charge and then battery will run 2-3 days on
a charge assuming about 1 hour talktime per day, no Bluetooth, no gaming, no
MMS, no texting, no WAP. I
n other words, the phone is in "standby".

If it isn't lasting a day, battery is probably bad.

I use my phone rarely - certainly not one hour talktime per day.
First one or two charges adhered to the three or so hours you quote but
the charge it had a couple of days ago (which I referred to in my
original message) was at least twelve hours long (I went to sleep
eventually)

Most of the time, the phone is in an environment which dictates that I
only receive two or three bars of signal strength but nevertheless, the
twelve hour+ charge of the other day after two weeks was highly unusual
compared to the previous phones I've had (Motorola t180, Sagem MYC2-2,
Nokia 3510i & Sony Ericsson T630)

Even more strangely perhaps, since the battery power indicator went
down to two bars just four or so hours after recharging, it's still on
two bars nearly two days afterwards.

Plugged the charger in at 11:15pm Monday - now 2am Wed. Still charging
with not one bar on the power indicator. Battery life was decreasing
before current (no pun) charge and charger is barely lukewarm to touch
currently.

Went to store thirty-six hours ago and was told to come back if problem
persisted - in other words, procrastination.

Going back in about twelve hours time with recorded evidence of length
of battery charge.

Please don't think I'm a geek ;-)

OK - bear in mind it can take upto 4 hours to fully charge (I've found that
from 1-2 bars takes 2.5 - 3 hrs and the final bar i.e. full charge occurs in
the final hour). I would expect the phone to be fully charged by 3.30am.

Leave it on charge for 4hrs and see what happens.

Took it back to the store and it (phone, battery and charger - the
whole package) was replaced with no Qs asked.
New one is recharging as I type.

The sales assistant gave me the usual "12-16 hour first charge" bit
which I've really never understood. It's by no means my first mobile
and the procedure that I've always used is to stop the recharging when
the display says that's it's charged. It's never affected the battery
life as far as I know.
It seems to me that this long initial charge is something of an urban
myth.

The new V620 indicates "charge completed" - that legend appearing some
two or so hours ago yet if I'm to follow the usual sales advice, it
should be charged for another six hours or so.

I wanted to get a Motorola flip before but heard of horror stories
about reliability so I ended up with an SE T630 but soon after that the
V620 was reduced in price and seemed to be not as prone to problems as
the V600.

I hope my first V620 was a rogue one......

Sometimes a dud sneaks through as it did in your case but I've been
using Motorola flips since they first came out in the late 80's and have
never had a problem - even after "drop testing" them on concrete floors.
I've had MicroTACS, StarTACS, v60's a v600 and now a v3 and have been
happy with them all. If you buy a cradle for the phone you'll be able
to tell if it's a bad battery or the phone since the cradle lets you
charge a battery out of the phone.
