PST

I am trying to load java stuff onto my v3. I have installed MPT v3 no
problems to my phone using USB cable. I have synchronised etc. so no
problems so far. I have installed PST v7.1.1 but when I try to read from the
phone I get an error message 'Phone not connected. Please connect and power
up the phone'. I am running XP SP2 all updates etc. and am running out of
ideas. Has anyone else encountered this problem or solved it?

I've found that the easiest way to add games/java apps is using
Bluetooth. It's drag & drop and you don't need to deal with .jad files.
Just drag the .jar file to the OBEX Object Push icon in My Bluetooth
Places and you're done. You don't even need MPT to do it.

I don't have bluetooth on my PC though. I have to use the USB.

You can pick up a Bluetooth dongle that plugs into a USB port for
under$20. You might find that worthwhile if you're going to to a lot of
downloads. I've been trying out a whole bunch of stuff from one of
those CDs I got on ebay so the BT transfer has been very good for me.

do a search for Motorola Hacker's bible. it is probably the most informative. i had the same problems...you can continue to click "ok" after getting the error message, but I've discovered you cannot uninstall PST if that happens.

However, PST does work in XPSP2. you have to ensure that you disconnect the USB cable from the phone inbetween P2kman, PST, or MPT. You cannot have any of the three running simulatneously.

with that said, the best thing to do is to uninstall all three programs. if you cannot uninstall PST, reinstall PST, but first right click the installation file of PST, go to properties, select compatibility and check "run this program in compatibility for:" and then select Windows 2000. PST will then isntall and you will not get the error message about service packs. after that, uninstall the program from add/remove programs. also, uninstall WIBU-KEY which is also listed in add/remove.

once you uninstall all three programs, reboot. go to my computer or windows explorer, or explorer and type %temp%. select all the files and delete them. that will empty your temp folders.

then follow the the motorla hacker's bible instructions. install MPT first (note when to connect the phone). make sure to update MPT once it is installed before connecting the phone.

once MPT is good, disconnect the phone, and install PST. Again, I ran PST under compatibility mode for windows 2000.
