Hello. I just got a new V180 and I couldn't understand why the keypad lights
kept going out even though I was still typing. I had never come across that
on any of my other mobile phones before - as I used to type the lights
stayed on constantly. So fazed by this I just thought I would give Motorola
Technical support an email and ask them and they wrote back and said it
looks like a fault with your particular phone and to take it back to the
place of purchase for a replacement.
The other night I turned off all the lights in the room and the keypad
lights stayed on all the time whilst I was pressing them - so what it looks
like is that there must be a light sensor built into the phone and that if
there is sufficient light that it turns of the Keypad button lights so it
don't look like a fault after all. I couldn't see it mentioned in the
instructions anywhere about this feature but if you recognise this on your
V180 just to let you know that it doesn't look like its a fault it is just
designed that way! (most probably to save battery power) - clever now I now
what it is. But me being one for modding the V180 (I have already got the
date now showing on the screen and enabled some more hidden features) I want
to try and find if there is a SEEM setting to turn the keypad lights on
constantly when tapping on them even when there is enough ambient light in
the room.

On the V710, the menu item for the feature you describe is called
"Battery Save" under the Initial Setup menu.

Re: V180 Keypad Lights Going out
How the hell did you get the date to show up? I have been trying to
make that work with no success. I tried the mod from
http://xlr8.us/hofo/ where you edit the 01a8_0001 seem. I uploaded the
one that says datealways and it didn't work. I even downloaded it from
my phone to verify that it did write. Am I missing something?

I think I adjusted some seems in 0032_0001 but as a result I have the
operator and date showing but I have had to limit personalize settings I
think it was 0032_0001 offset 6C bit3 and then both the operator and date
shows now.

I don't suppose I have to mention be careful with adjusting the Motorola
SEEMS because you can muck up the phones settings big time and I should know
because I have done it twice! :-(
- and I had even backed up the original SEEMS, but I had somehow overwritten
the backups like the eeejit I am.
Anyway in the end I have now got many more features enabled on my V180 now
than when I originally had when I first got the V180. - I even have a
setting in the phone now that says 'Bluetooth' (although the phone doesn't
have BT so I supposes that wont work) and a setting saying 'Sync' (but it
doesn't seem to do anything) I have a thing where I can press a button and
record something for a minute, store it, and play it back and I have changed
the wording on the V180's outer LCD panel and one of the best things I have
changed is that my keypad lights flash in rhythm when a call comes in (added
funlight.pat to the sound folder) and added more Vibe's. :-)
I wonder why Motorola just did not add all these features as standard to the
V180 before it went on the market?
