Whoa there cowboy! Bluetooth and WiFi are NOT the same. To connect the
PC via Bluetooth to your phone you need a Bluetooth equipped PC. You can
get a Bluetooth Dongle that plugs into a USB port on your PC/laptop for
about $20 on ebay or on sale at CompUSA. Your wireless router plays no
    role here.
Once you get the dongle read this:

The router is capable of 802.11b,g, or mixed operation though. It is
capable of both, and is set up for mixed operation now. You mean that
there is no way to use the router to access wireless devices, only
    computers?

Correct, there is no way to use the router to connect directly to the
phone. You can use it to access 802.11b/g wireless devices such as
PDA's, laptops and game bridges but NOT your wireless phone which is not
a 802.11b/g device. The phone uses Bluetooth which is 802.15 and a
completely different thing. Bluetooth is meant for short distance
pairing with other BT equipped devices such as headsets, handsfree units
    and other phones.

So I assume this means I cant use a 802.11b/g pcmcia card to interface
either, or do those normally have bluetooth as well?
    Thanks for the help

Re: Connecting V557 to computer through a wireless router (WRT54G)

No, they don't have Bluetooth either. 802.11b/g (WiFi) cards have
absolutely no compatibility with Bluetooth. They are as different as
floppy disks and CD's. I know you'd like to use something you have but
you need to get a Bluetooth dongle for your PC to make this work.

To interface your phone to your computer buy one of these for $21 after
    rebate (free shipping too!):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ce&n=172282The reason I like this one is that it ships with the Widcomm/BroadcomDrivers which make loading games to your phone a snap. Others that don'thave these drivers are harder to work with.From:[email protected]@gmail.com> So I assume this means I cant use a 802.11b/g pcmcia card to interface> either, or do those normally have bluetooth as well?> Thanks for the help> Dan

I have a data cable, and a bluetooth dongle is on the way. Are there
any free drivers/programs available to use the cable?

Your best bet would be to buy a copy of Mobile Phone Tools. Any version
from 2.11 up is fina as it will upgrade to the latest when you install
it. You can buy it on ebay very cheap.

The bluetooth dongle will come with drivers. You almost certainly want to
avoid the WinXP drivers. Follow the vendor directions carefully.

This will allow you to use WinXP to copy photos and movies via "OBEX". It
also allows you to copy _one_ contact at a time to or from your phone.
You can push java apps as "games".

The USB cable can be used to connect to the phone for internet or use as a
modem, but no file copying that I know of without paying.

Bluetooth or USB would be more fully featured by buying Mobile Phone Tools,
which can be found with a USB cable pretty cheaply.
