I'm seeing crazy network ID behavior on a V551 after flashing to the
latest MP posted on motomodders. The Network identifier on the main
screen, says "Cingular" however, I beleive it is actually connected to
    T-Mobile. It has a T-Mobile SIM, and is unlocked. I call 411 and 611
    and get T-Mobile services.

The phone was originally a locked Cingular branded V551, so I had it
unlocked, and T-Mobile SIM worked fine. It identified T-Mobile on the
screen. I decided to use the MP:
    R472_G_08.18.40R_PDS002_LP002E_DRM0001_JPJAVA_G_08_R47_06_00_05R_SE7498BXXU10D6_1FF
as posted on motomodders to get latest firmware features and eliminate
the Cingular branding at the same time. Flashed above MP into it with
    MultiFlex just fine.

Now everything works, but the screen says "Cingular" once a network is
found. (It starts off by says "No Service" like it should and when it
finds a network and registers, then it says Cingular).

    Any ideas ?

Go to Menu: Settings: Network: Available Networks and see what's listed.
Perhaps you're in an area that allows TMo roaming on the Cingular 850
    network which might explain it.

No such luck. The Available Networks ONLY show two flavors of Cingular.
In Network Setup, the Band and Type are all set to Automatic. I checked
with T-Mobile cust service folks and they were stumped, but reminded me
that I have no roaming charges, so it probably doesn't make much
difference, since it works just fine. 441, 611 and voicemail all seem
to work. The phone just thinks it's connected to Cingular....

    Hummmmmmm......

That's probably because you hacked the firmware. Hummmmmmm indeed.

Actually, I tried to load it with 'Stock Motorola' V551 code. I think
that's the one I flashed, perhaps I try again.

Also, I turned the phone on during a trip in Alabama this morning and
it properly displays T-Mobile as the carrier....

    Odd.

Ok, I will search for a vanilla Stock Motorola V551 firmware and try
    flashing again.
