Nextel, T-Mobile USA contract for battery maintenance

NEWTON, Mass.-Nextel Communications Inc. and T-Mobile USA Inc. have entered
multi-million dollar contracts to use BatteryCorp's patent-pending OMS
solution for battery preventative maintenance.
The OMS solution provides Web-based management for testing, installing and
recycling stationary batteries used by telecommunications companies.
According to BatteryCorp, Nextel and T-Mobile will benefit from improved
reliability of battery deployments, lowered maintenance and procurement
expenses, and increased site survivability.

"BatteryCorp is very pleased that these two leaders in the
telecommunications industry have recognized the importance of our
preventative maintenance solution in monitoring and assuring the life of
their stationary batteries," explained Steven Dworkin, chief executive
officer of BatteryCorp. "The blackout last August and the ongoing threat to
national security have reinforced the need for the industry to do everything
in its power to guarantee the dependability of its services."

Seriously, BTS and switch reliability is becoming more critical with more
people depending in wireless networks. Cingular in the northeast (and esp.
CT) depends heavily on rolling our portable generators when needed
(resulting in interruptions -- not cool). Its good to see the carriers
being proactive in reliability.

ISO New England recently but off all of Southeastern Mass. a month or so ago
for about 2 hours (after a power plant fire). I was mid-call with another
T-Mo customer -- we were both located in the affected area. Our
conversation continued completely unaffected when the switch was hit! We
fared *much* better than the experience I'd witnessed with the August NE
blackout...

Its not being proactive, rather reactive, as is usual with large
companies. If they were proactive they would have already had
generators setup before the huge blackout last year.

Withour sounding rude.... I hope you were not thinking that this had
anything to do with the actual cell phone batteries. This is for the
telecom infrastructure.
