Has anyone had experience in porting from Nextel? I just had another problem
with my BB7510 where the screen went blank execept for smudges. Clearly
somehow the screen got damaged but I have no idea how. I'm still under
contract but I'm getting sick of spending $35 everytime the thing needs
repair, which looks like frequently. ABout three months ago after having the
phone for a whole four weeks the DC button stopped working so I had to spend
$35 to get that fixed, now this. So I'm thinking of going back to SPrint
where I was a happy customer for three years. What I want to know is since
I'm under contract will Nextel hold the number and stop the port over to
Sprint or will it be as fast as moving from Sprint to Nextel? I know I'll
have to pay for early terimation but the way I figure it, $200 now beats
spending $120 a month for eight more months.

My wife ported over to T-mobile 6 months ago. request for port @2pm on a
saturday, number was active on new t-mobile phone 6:30pm. I was
impressed. Nextel billing reflected the change correctly.
On a different note, why are you paying insurance for a product that has
a factory RIM warranty to begin with ? Contact RIM directly since it
is still their product. I don't know how this works with nextel branded
blackberry, but, I had an AT&T branded blackberry and RIM always stepped
up to the plate to deliver when I invoked a warranty claim..
Finally, I would look at the new 7100T GSM from T-mobile if you are
interested in new BB's..

Thanks for the info. I would have o send the BB to Rim for repair and from
what I can tell it would take about a week to get it back, I can't wait that
long to be without a phone. It pisses me off that I have to pay for ****
like this, that's the reason I think I'm going to go back to Sprint and eat
the $200 early termination fee.

I ported my wife to ATT and it took 2 days for the number to ring through.
Apparently when the whole portablity became available Nextel placed a
password on all 3 phones on my account to "PROTECT" my account according to
the rep I spoke to. I had to call their special number to get my unique
password. Once I did and gave it to ATT the port went through with no
problem. You might want to check with Cust Care before trying to port to
make sure there is no password on your account.

I work in number portability for another carrier who uses IDen as
well. So we are in direct competition with Nextel. Needless to say we
do alot of business transactions with Nextel. Let me point out that
the biggest thing is the password on your account with Nextel. This is
not just a regular password, Nextel specifically calls it a
Portability Passcode or password. Its usually a 1PXXXXX password. (X's
of course being the remaining characters).

if you don't have the portability password issue, it takes less than
five minutes to port over the number to another carrier. I just
ported out three phones to Verizon Monday night and the longest one
took 7 minutes.
