    Okay, here's the thing...

....a friend of mine is offering to sell me his old i730 phone (he
moved up to the new i860) for cheap. I still have an old i60c phone
which has served me well, but is getting a little gray in the hair.

When he updated to the i860, he took his SIM card out and moved it to
the new phone, so the i730 doesn't have a SIM card in it any more.

How difficult would it be for me to transfer all my info and settings
to the i730? Is it really as easy as just transferring my SIM card
from the i60c to the i730?

The i60 c sim card is not fully compatible with the i730 phone. You will be able to make calls but some features of the i730 will not be fully functional..ex: contact lists. You can swap your contact info by using address book feature which is $5 and needs to be added to your acct or you can go to a service center. I can't say what a service center will charge for the info transfer from sim to sim

You can likely find a 3 digit SIM on eBay. Then, put it in the phone, bring
it to a Nextel place and act like you really don't know how these things
work, that you want to move your contacts across and then look at some
accessories for your new i730. The salesman, if he's like mine, will likely
be happy to get some potential sales and will use the handy dandy Nextel
supplied SIM upgrade device to copy your two-digit SIM over to the
three-digit SIM and your set. That's basicaly how I played this out going
from an i58 to my i730.

You can also purchase a product called the Contact Copier, from any local
retailer or telesales. It's retails for $14.99, and allows you to transfer
    the information from a 2-digit to 2-digit, 2-digit to 3-digit, or a 3-digit
to 3-digit SIM card in less than one minute.

It looks like a miniature pocket calculator, with a sliding tray that holds
both SIM cards. It's the easier way, since it's completely reusable, and it
makes an exact copy of the information.
